Advances in immunotherapy for biliary tract cancers
Chin Med J (Engl). 2023 Aug 29. doi: 10.1097/CM9.0000000000002759. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBiliary tract cancers (BTC) are a heterogeneous disease with poor prognosis, including gallbladder cancer (GBC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC), and extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ECC). Although surgery is currently the primary regimen to treat BTC, most BTC patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage and miss the opportunity of surgical eradication. As a result, non-surgical therapy serves as the main intervention for advanced BTC. In recent years, immunotherapy has emerged as the one of the most promising therapies i...

Frequency of health care provider recommendations for HPV vaccination: a survey in three large cities in China
DISCUSSION: The frequency of HCPs' recommendations for HPV vaccination in China was much lower than that in many developed countries. To enhance the recommendation frequency, medical institutions should help HCPs gain more knowledge of HPV and master communication skills. At the same time, the government should take measures to enhance the accessibility of HPV vaccines. The media should help to alleviate people's concerns and encourage them to face up sexual health.PMID:37497028 | PMC:PMC10366465 | DOI:10.3389/fpubh.2023.1203610

Head-to-head immunogenicity comparison of an Escherichia coli-produced 9-valent human papillomavirus vaccine and Gardasil 9 in women aged 18-26 years in China: a randomised blinded clinical trial
This study aimed to compare the immunogenicity of the E coli-produced HPV 9-valent vaccine Cecolin 9 (against HPV 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58) with Gardasil 9.METHODS: This was a randomised, single-blind trial conducted in China. Healthy non-pregnant women aged 18-26 years, who were not breastfeeding and with no HPV vaccination history, were enrolled in the Ganyu Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province, China). Women were stratified by age (18-22 years and 23-26 years) and randomly assigned (1:1) using a permutated block size of eight to receive three doses of Cecolin 9 or Ga...

Advances in bio-immunotherapy for castration-resistant prostate cancer
J Cancer Res Clin Oncol. 2023 Jul 18. doi: 10.1007/s00432-023-05152-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProstate cancer is one of the significant diseases that threaten the survival of men worldwide, with the progression of androgen deprivation therapy, become much rely on it, finally, developed into castration-resistant prostate cancer (ADT). In western countries, ranks second in incidence, and in China, with increasing lifespan, the incidence of prostate cancer is rising steadily. Although chemotherapy agents, such as taxane, have achieved some efficacy, treatment failure still occur. As sensitivity of hormone levels change...

In conclusion, the longevity-associated genotype of FLT1 may confer increased lifespan by protecting against mortality risk posed by hypertension. We suggest that FLT1 expression in individuals with longevity genotype boosts vascular endothelial resilience mechanisms to counteract hypertension-related stress in vital organs and tissues. COVID-19 Severity and Waning Immunity After up to 4 mRNA Vaccine Doses in 73  608 Patients With Cancer and 621 475 Matched Controls in Singapore: A Nationwide Cohort Study
CONCLUSION: This cohort study provides evidence of the clinical effectiveness of mRNA-based vaccines against COVID-19 in patients with cancer. Longevity of immunity in preventing severe COVID-19 outcomes in actively treated patients with cancer, cancer survivors, and matched controls was observed at least 5 months after the third or fourth dose.PMID:37440245 | DOI:10.1001/jamaoncol.2023.2271

This study explored the association between different cooking fuel types and the risk of cancer and all-cause mortality among seniors constructing Cox regression models. Data were obtained by linking waves of 6, 7, and 8 of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey, which included a total of 7,269 participants who were 65 years old and over. Cooking fuels were categorized as either biomass, fossil, or clean fuels. And the effects of switching cooking fuels on death risk were also investigated using Cox regression models. The results indicate that, compared with the users of clean fuels, individuals using bio...

An investigation on cervical cancer and human papillomavirus vaccine knowledge, and analysis of influencing factors for choosing domestic or imported 2vHPV vaccine among females in Shenzhen, China
In conclusion, eligible female recipients had a high degree of knowledge regarding cervical cancer and HPV vaccine, education level and occupation were the most important factors for scores. Domestic 2vHPV vaccine was more widely utilized than imported, manufacturer, efficacy, safety, cognitive approach, public opinion, convenient acquisition, and knowledge reserve had an impact on selection for recipients, while price and doctor's suggestion did not.PMID:37350143 | DOI:10.1080/21645515.2023.2225389

Low levels of neutralizing antibodies against XBB Omicron subvariants after BA.5 infection
Signal Transduct Target Ther. 2023 Jun 19;8(1):252. doi: 10.1038/s41392-023-01495-4.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 response strategies in Chinese mainland were recently adjusted due to the reduced pathogenicity and enhanced infectivity of Omicron subvariants. In Chengdu, China, an infection wave was predominantly induced by the BA.5 subvariant. It is crucial to determine whether the hybrid anti-SARS-CoV-2 immunity following BA.5 infection, coupled with a variety of immune background, is sufficient to shape the immune responses against newly emerged Omicron subvariants, especially for XBB lineages. To investigate this, we collected s...

Updates on global epidemiology, risk and prognostic factors of gastric cancer
World J Gastroenterol. 2023 Apr 28;29(16):2452-2468. doi: 10.3748/wjg.v29.i16.2452.ABSTRACTGastric cancer (GC) is defined as the primary epithelial malignancy derived from the stomach, and it is a complicated and heterogeneous disease with multiple risk factors. Despite its overall declining trend of incidence and mortality in various countries over the past few decades, GC remains the fifth most common malignancy and the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death globally. Although the global burden of GC has shown a significant downward trend, it remains severe in certain areas, such as Asia. GC ranks third in incidenc...
